Kelly was perspiring as she had just finished netball practice. As she trudged home in her dirty P.E attire, she longed for a refreshing cold bath and relaxing in front of a television while sipping coke.
As she was nearing Block 346, she noticed a man clad in a black shirt and blue denim jeans. He wore a large cap and an earring on one ear. He was glancing impatiently at his watch every now and then. When he saw a policeman, he crouched behind a pillar.
“This is odd,” Kelly said to herself. “Why is he afraid of the policeman?”
Kelly found the man suspicious so she decided to observe him. She noticed him light a cigarette nervously. His hands were shaking. “Could he be waiting for someone?”
True enough, another young man, quite breathless, appeared. The two men waved at each other.
“Do you have the money?” The older one asked extinguishing his cigarette.
“Show me your money first,” the other replied.
Kelly shuddered. She suspected that they were drug dealers. Kelly whipped out her handphone and dialled for the police. After that she took a photograph of them and sent it to the police.
Not long after, a police car raced to the void deck. Kelly hid behind a pillar immediately because she was afraid to get hurt.
The policemen surrounded the two men. One was shot in the arm as he tried to get hold of a policeman’s pistol. The other man was desperate enough to put up a struggle. However, they were outnumbered and overcame.
Relieved, Kelly came out of her hiding place. A week later, Kelly received a letter from the police commending her for her vigilance.
